Welcome to Dynamic Storyboarding for film! Dive into the intricacies of crafting compelling action sequences through the use of storyboards In this 6 week course. Students will acquire the skills to convey mood, tension, and emotion and bring their action narratives to life.
 
It doesn’t matter whether you’re a budding filmmaker or a seasoned storyteller this course will pull away the curtain on how big Hollywood blockbuster action scenes are designed.
 
Week 1 – Intro to Dynamic Storyboarding:  What are storyboards and who uses them as it relates to the feature film pipeline, the skill set, an intro discussion into all the disciplines; editing, cinematography, writing, directing, 2nd unit (action directing).
 
Week 2 – Writing aspects: Discussing conceptual heavy lifting when there is no script. Discussing previous week’s homework assignments highlighting things from each student’s homework that are in line with the lecture and what could make it better.
 
Week 3 – The Action Aesthetic: Discussing the action aesthetic. Demo examples of the action style blocking, demo draw over Highlight previous week’s homework assignments – discuss what’s in line with the lecture and what could make it better.
 

Week 4 – Cinematography Aspects: Understanding how the camera moves, camera rigs and basic aspects of lensing. Demo some angles illustrating camera movement and varied lensing

Week 5 – Editing Aspects/ Animatics: A look at action pacing, cutting and transitions – objective vs subjective shot choices. Demo some cutting examples through animatics. 

Week 6 – Putting it all together! Discussing the industry.
