DESCRIPTION:
Learn to sketch with style and confidence as Art Director Cynthia Halley shares her approach to on-location drawing, giving students the tools they need to create stylish and well-constructed drawings that showcase their personal voice.Â
In this single-day IN-PERSON workshop, students are guided through a mix of group instruction and individual drawing and feedback. They are given techniques for using pen and line to their advantage, gain a better understanding of forms and construction, and learn how to break down complex environments to create strong compositions and designs.
Come learn in-person from a top talent of the Entertainment Industry. Build a network of fellow students, gain access to Cynthia’s personal list of preferred tools and materials, and come away a positive mindset and direction for your art.

High school through adult, personal or professional study. Intermediate level (basic drawing experience or classes recommended)
SUPPLIES: Pens and a sketchbook (detailed list provided after sing up… more info to come)
INK PEN (required)- fine to medium, felt tip, roller ball, or or fountain
Liquid (not gel). something that flows but is controllable.
MARKERS (recommended)- Alcohol based light and medium-light, neutral tones

Cynthia Halley is an LA based Art Director, Designer, & Visual Development artist for the entertainment industry. She is an alumn of Art Center College of Design and has worked with many major animation studios including Disney, Sony Pictures Animation, DreamWorks, Titmouse Animation, Nickelodeon, and for several years as Art Director at Marvel Studios.Â
With natural curiosity and lifelong exposure to art and engineering, she has an enthusiastic appreciation for all fields of design, and believes firmly in the benefit of cross-disciplinary-education and industry pollination. She was trained in traditional illustration as well as the entertainment arts, and both disciplines continue to influence her life-long passions of collaborative world building, visual communication, fantasy, and fun.Â
Outside of the studios Cynthia is an all-around artist and educator. She is always looking for new creative outlets and learning opportunities, dabbling in everything from textile arts and costumes to traveling and camping. She enjoys sharing her experiences and is dedicated to inspiring and educating future artists to be powerful storytellers and designers. When not out and about she can be found reorganizing and decorating her home, watching documentaries, or napping with the cat.
