DRAWING COMICS for Ages 12 – 16 (Five Sessions) Materials Included

In this course, we will cover various essential techniques and concepts to help you develop your skills in oil painting.

DRAWING COMICS for Everyone!  *ALL skill levels, ALL styles and ALL genres welcome! This class will include a series of fun 1-day projects and challenging drawing games to build up and expand student’s storytelling talents. Great for learners who want to draw comics/manga. ALL

MATERIALS INCLUDED for all five classes.

DAY 1: Name tags – Diary comics (3 panel true story) Group prompts to create a collective comic page (fundamentals/basics of page layout) – Critique

DAY 2: “What’s in the box?” (creating 4 panel suspense stories) – Exterior/Interior/close-up (3 panel page) – Backgrounds – Critique

DAY 3: “Dream” story -1 Page Jam comic (improvisational storytelling) – Prompts (specificity/ reference) -Critique

DAY 4: Character design/ turnarounds – Tell each other a story/ Illustrate -Silent story/ mistakes and resolutions (clear visual storytelling) -Critique

DAY 5 : One page story (putting previous lessons to work)

Classes meet for the following five Saturdays from 11:00 am to 1:00 PM January 13th, 20th, 27th, February 3rd and 10th.

Miss Lasko-Gross is the author and illustrator of Henni (Honored by ALA’s Amelia Bloomer List and YALSA 2016: Great Graphic Novels for Teens,) Fantagraphics Books: A Mess Of Everything (named one of Booklist’s top 10 graphic novels of the year) and the YALSA nominated Escape From “Special.” She is the creator/writer of Z2 comics’ SciFi series THE SWEETNESS. Her Illustration has also been featured in the New Yorker’s Daily Shouts.

All materials are included with the price of your enrollment.

Our beautiful studio is located within the historic National Arts Club on Gramercy Park South. The 24 doorman will direct you to our space. We limit our class to 11 students. 

We are a screen-free environment!

Students are expected to focus on their work for the duration of the session. We play low classical music during class.

Discussions of student work with the teacher take place during class. 

Gender neutral restrooms are located near our room. 

Our room has a security camera for everyone’s safety.
