Here is the drawing along with the caption included on Tommy’s Instagram account. In a recent life drawing class, there was a Hells Angles looking guy who had arms like small telephone poles. He was in my line of vision while everyone was drawing their endless one-minute poses. So I sketched him. At halftime the moderator wanted everyone to display their work and swooped in and grabbed my sketchbook. I didn’t think anyone even noticed what I was up to. Tattooman turned out to be a nice guy who was more than shocked to see he was drawn by yours truly. I emailed him a high-rez. Now I have a bodyguard when I draw at this joint.
Since then Tommy has attended several sketch sessions, including our new sessions in Bushwick Brooklyn. Each time he “compiles” the session through drawings, writing, …stamps…chops…stickers…etc. Here is another example of drawings and text from a recent session with the accompanying text on his Instagram account. I did this illustration of a very interesting woman at the The National Arts Club in NYC during a life drawing class. I began to notice the other artists were mostly all wearing black reading glasses to assist in their sketching. So was I.
It’s hard not to get addicted to Tommy’s work. The good news is that he has two books available for purchase on Amazon. We have a copy of, All My Photographs Are Made With Pens, and it is excellent. What makes the book so special is the combination of intimate, funny, satirical and powerful writing that goes along with his drawings.
Drawing New York wholeheartedly recommends this book to our members! We hope you grab a copy soon.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
