I was born in the Netherlands, after a long detour via Australia, Bermuda and the United States, now living in Canada near Toronto.

When I was bored as a kid, my mom gave me a pencil and piece of paper with advice to do some drawing. So I did. Throughout my life I created art and participated in regular exhibitions. I used pencil and ink first, and later pastels. In 2016 I was introduced to acrylic painting. I am loving it!

I don’t have the kind of workspace where I can safely use oils, so I am trying to follow along as best as I can with my acrylics during any oil-based courses .

I consider myself an emerging artist, uttering the ‘A-word’ with some hesitation. I use art for my own joy and serenity, and finding out that many people like it, and even sometimes want to own it, is a continuous source of delight and surprise to me. I am not in this for the money, I am in it for myself. I love the act of painting…

I tend to stick with subjects that have a beating heart, I am not inclined to paint landscapes or still life, although I sometimes paint them as a learning project. I love animals and people and they are recurring topics in my art.
