I will go first. I am a big fan of many Scandanavian artists. There was a show many years ago at Scandanavia House in New York City where I was introduced to the art of Vilhelm Hammershøi.
His work is quiet, almost haunting but somehow not menacing. Here is a wonderful article about him. Who is your favorite artist we have never heard of?

Wow, his work is really beautiful. You’re right there is a haunting even lonely and melancholy quality to his work.
Have your heard of the Skagen Painters? I was just introduced to them last month. Here’s an article. https://eclecticlight.co/2015/05/29/beyond-the-french-impressionists-11-denmark-skagen-painters/ I love impressionist paintings and of course landscapes.

Wow, back. There are so many good paintings on that page. It ranges between highly complex, like the toast at the outdoor table, to the amazingly simple and haunting – so many examples.
Can’t wait for more Scandinavian painting shows in the states (new york :).

I know! I love how many international artist I’m discovering lately. I can’t wait until there are cool shows again. Maybe I’ll have to come to New York to see some.

Jessica, This work is really well executed and evocative but also lives on that line of being, dare I say, happy. It reminds me of the work of the artist who taught me everything I know about the technical side of oil painting, Ora Lerman.
I answered an ad in our college paper for an artist assistant and ended up working with her for many years in Westbeth in New York City. I helped primarily in the preparatory side of this public work. https://www.lermantrust.org/oralerman/#Insidetheark

Hi Jessica,
I’ve never seen Evgeni Gordiets work before, it’s stunning. I love the well rendered aspect of it but the color is what is really striking to me. The colors a vibrant and beautiful without being too intense and over powering. And there is something about the images that is just playful and wonderful. Thanks for sharing.

Wow that’s really nice. Yes Evgeni Gordiets work is … well, definitely not depressing!
It’s also really unique, creative, and clever- combined with being beautiful and technically excellent- the kind of art I love most. 🙂

Well, probably everybody heard of him but my favorite artist is Cesar Santos 😉

Lots of people already know of her, I’m sure, but Eliza Ivanova is probably my all-time favorite. I find her work very spiritual, and she is incredibly kind.
Hope everyone is doing well throughout these times. If anybody is interested in collaborating on any projects or connecting, feel free to reach out to me. – Nuka // [email protected]

Do you know about Charles White’s drawings and paintings? Here’s a short post I made a little while back.
