    Hola!

I am Paulina and am currently living in NYC. I have worked in fashion/manufacturing for about 5 years but the pandemic has me wanting to focus more on editorial illustration and scientific illustration. I also love portraiture and would like to return to more traditional mediums, unlike computer mediums that have become my norm. Anyways, always glad to meet other artists. My work can be found here: https://www.instagram.com/dessertviolets/

Hello Paulina, Welcome to the group. I love your bright, vibrant work. What part of fashion/manufacturing do you work in? It is a fascinating industry as it overlaps with much of our costume drawing and even character design classes. Welcome! Simon

    Hello!

I’m Dwain and I’m from New Zealand. I’ve been drawing ever since I was a little boy and I always wanted to be an artist. But I ended up being a children’s book illustrator instead. I’ve been Illustrating for nearly 10 years now and I still feel like a beginner. It is the hardest thing that I have ever done in my life. I’ve come to the point now that I really want to master the fundamentals of anatomy, perspective and colour.

Once I saw Will Westons drawings on Instagram, I was amazed. I had to take his courses. I’ve always struggled with drawing figures, compositions, costumes etc… and I really wanted to get better at it. Heck, I’ve even gone through George Bridgeman, Michael Hampton, Ron Lemen, Gottfried Bammes and Rey Bustos books and online courses. You can view some of it at http://www.deviantart.com/daiolupo and even after all that study and drawing, I still lose confidence when I stare at that white sheet of paper.

My goal is just to keep learning and progress slowly, always sharing what I’ve learnt and to make work that just looks cool!

Welcome Dwain, One day I hope to get down to NZ!

I think so many of us have had the same reaction you had when you saw Will’s work on Instagram. That is in fact the way we reached out to him over two years ago now. We feel very lucky to be able to bring his teaching to students online.

Sounds like you’re doing all the right things in your studies. Seems like, with a competent anatomy teacher and a real focus, the task of learning anatomy can be completed in one to two years.

Then the challenge is staying fresh through practice.

      Again, welcome aboard!

      Simon

      Hi Dwain,

I have the same fear of staring at a white piece of paper. It’s always so exciting and challenging to start a new project. Your paintings are really cool. What are you currently working on?

I’m in California and right now is the best time to be outdoors, so I’m working on some landscape paintings.

        Hi Calina

Thank you for the kinds words. Yep, I agree, it’s always exciting to start a new project.

I haven’t touch a paint brush in 20 years and those were the last paintings that I’ve ever done. Now a days, most of my paintings are done digitally because art materials have become very expensive.

I’m currently illustrating a children’s bible for a preschool. It’s a daunting task and one of the most challenging projects that I have ever worked on. Hence why I’m trying to master anatomy, color, perspective etc… create an ancient world from imagination.

        Good luck with your project!

        Dwain

          Hi Dwain,

Wow, creating a whole world from your imagination, that sounds both fun and overwhelming. I’d love to see some of the things you’re creating.

            Hi Calina,

Yes, it’s so overwhelming that, well, to be honest, it hasn’t been going too well. It seems every time I try to draw something, it just turns out terrible. I guess I just need to keep trying and hope for the best.

    Hi, I’m Calina.

I currently live in southern California. I’ve always loved painting and drawing; its a way for me to connect to the things around me. I move a lot and I find plein air painting is a fun way for me to get to know a new place.

This is my first art forum and I’m excited to build a community here. I can’t wait to connect with some fellow artists, share work, ideas, and favorite locations.

Hi! I’m Kari from Baltimore, MD. I’m taking a painting class in order to learn the basics of the skill and improve. I love art, but it can be hard to discard the self-judgment. I’m using this class to practice letting go and just enjoy the process.

Has anyone found that the site loads really slowly? I’m having trouble navigating the site because of it.
