Will Weston – Central Park Workshop, New York City

IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR DAY ONE 

Hello Everyone,

We are very excited to meet you on Saturday for Will Weston’s Central Park Drawing Workshop.

BECAUSE IT IS SUPPOSED TO RAIN we will meet at THE AMERICAN MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY Group Entrance on the 81st Street side of the museum at 10:00 am.

You can see an arrow below on the map. If the weather is bad we will work in the museum – if it clears up we will head outside.

If you would like, please bring a stool to sit on inside the museum. If not, there are benches in various galleries.

We will work form 10:00 until our lunch break at 1:00 and then meet again at 2:00 inside the museum.

You can work on a tablet or a traditional drawing pad with pencils or dry mediums.

There are no sprays, paints or marker that emit odors allowed.

Spend two full days drawing in Central Park, NYC with instructor Will Weston. Class begins at the fountain at Cherry Hill, Central Park at 10:00 AM on Saturday, May 20th.

This session focuses on drawing plants, trees, shrubs, rock formations, landscapes, ground planes, and outdoor architecture (all very useful subjects for anyone interested in entertainment arts). Throughout the weekend, Will offers demonstrations on site. Students then work on their own drawings and reassemble for critiques and new information.

Students will visit, Cherry Hill, Bethesda Fountain, The Toy Boat House, and Belvedere Castle as well as smaller locations along the way. Students should be prepared to walk 2 or 3 times per day for up to 15 minutes.

This is an excellent opportunity to meet other artists/students and to learn from one of the greatest drawing instructors.

Students should gather at the meeting spot – pictured below no later than 10:00 am on Saturday May 20th.

Class runs from 10:30 – 1:30 and 2:30 – 5:30 on both Saturday and Sunday. 

We will have a lead contact on the day who you will be able to text to make sure everyone is connected. 

Lunch is not provided but can be bought nearby. 

Students should prepare to work outside for the entire day with a 1 hour break in from 1-2 pm. 

Bathrooms will be pointed out near our locations. Lunch is not provided and it is suggested that students bring food with them. There are places to purchase lunch in the park from vendors to The Boat House if needed. 

A folding stool like this one might come in handy but there are many benches to sit on. Alternately a towel or blanked can be used to sit on the grass. 

Students may work in any medium they wish including digital. The focus of this class is drawing and so demos will be hand drawn.
