Join us for five Mondays of Portrait Painting in Oil taught by artist and instructor Kelly Foss. All materials are included. Classes are limited to 6 students.
Class dates are February 17th, 24th, March 2nd, 9th, and 16th
Each attendee is provided oil paint, a canvas, brushes, an easel, stool with a back, disposable palette, Gamsol (odorless thinner) and a small table for supplies.
Week 1. Paint a small value study and then focus on “drawing” with paint to create the blueprint for the final painting by learning to observe proportions.
Week 2. Learn to mix the colors you observe, paint a color study of the model, and learn some tricks of the trade.
Week 3. Learn about form and paint the ébauche (i.e., the underpainting).
Week 4. Discuss the importance of expressing a mood in the painting; the idea of “forced focus”, and how to finish a painting.
Week 5. Focus on the myriad details of completing a portrait focused on texture and finish.
Each attendee is provided an easel, stool with a back, disposable palette, Gamsol (odorless thinner) and a small table for supplies.
Painting can be stored during the month students are registered and should be taken on the completion of the final session.
Sessions are three hours with a clothed model in a single pose. A single pose will be held for all four sessions.
There is never any photography allowed while models are posing. Headsets are okay for music so long as the volume is low enough not to be heard by others. Classical music is typically played at low levels during sessions.
For everyone’s safety, our room is monitored by a video camera. By signing up for sessions you are agreeing to and accept this arrangement.
