Wayne Thiebaud
In addition to being a great artist, Wayne Thiebaud was an educator for many years. He mentioned that simply getting through a figure was no easy job. Let’s look at the way he used his pencil. Before we go further with anatomy let’s see how good your drawing can be – of the figure you are currently capable of drawing.Â
Some Lessons: Shadows have edges. Not all edges are lines. Shadow and line express form. Darks compete.
Prepare: Get your materials together. If you don’t know anything about materials – find out what you are using. (ask me).
Plan: decide what you are going to include. Sometimes it is easier to decide what you are going to leave out.Â
Build: Play loosely to see if your decisions fit into the idea you just had.
Develop: Slowly bring out the elements in your drawing.Â
Finish: Spend as much time as possible working on the drawing you think you are near the ending. Go slow here.
