John Singer Sargent Drawings At The Morgan
John Singer Sargent charcoal drawings are coming to The Morgan Library and Museum.
60 Sargent charcoal drawings will be on exhibit at The Morgan Library and Museum for their show: John Singer Sargent: Portraits in Charcoal from October 4, 2019 through January 12, 2020. This is the first time that such a large-scale show will be mounted to look at the artists work in charcoal.
Here is an interesting excerpt from The Morgan’s website: “While he is best known for his powerful paintings, he largely ceased painting portraits in 1907 and turned instead to charcoal drawings to satisfy portrait commissions. These drawn portraits represent a substantial, yet often overlooked, part of his practice, and they demonstrate the same sense of immediacy, psychological sensitivity, and mastery of chiaroscuro that animate Sargent’s sitters on canvas.
